Bridging the gap for an online education platform

Challenge

The global in-house team of an online education platform had reduced capacity due to multiple members of the team taking parental leave at the same time. Due to inconsistency and fluctuations for when the business needed support, the client had struggled to find an interim solution that was cost-effective.

Solution

LOD provided a senior commercial lawyer with many years in-house experience on a flexible retainer. This meant the client was able to plug gaps in the team as and when they needed to, spanning the work that the absent team members would usually be completing.

Working remotely, the LOD lawyer was able to flex time zones to suit the requirements of the business. The client could relax with flexible legal support without the worry of having to find work for the lawyer to complete during low-demand periods.

Impact

The client had access to 50 hours of their lawyer's time per month. Within this they had flexibility on when the hours were used to meet their demand. LOD's flexible retainer solution ensured the in-house team had seamless overflow support at exactly the moment they needed it. Once the parental leave finished and the full-time lawyers returned, the flexible retainer was switched off.
