Ben Hurley from HR Daily recently sat down and spoke to our Director of People Development & Communications, Anita Bennett.
Despite flexible work arrangements being on the rise in some industries, there are still however some where the traditions of long work hours still get in the way. Anita shares how we at AdventBalance have made it work in a traditionally conservative indstry.
We believe that there is nothing inherent in legal work that prevents flexible work arrangements and career progression taking place side-by-side. We have over 130 lawyers throughout Australia and Asia who work on secondment.
I think within the legal industry there is a mindset that adopting flexible work practices isn’t somethign that can work within law” says Anita. “Our model has proved that it can. Our whole business model is set up in fact to do that”.
Just under half of our lawyers are working part-time, and our workforce is very dispersed.
HR plays a key role in making our approach work, by keeping the lines of communication open with both lawyers and clients to ensure their expectatons are being met.
We regularly use tools like Skype and Webex for meetings and communicating with our lawyers. We also use social networking platforms which allow our lawyers to share information, ask questions and call for assistance. Regular updates about the business are posted using this tool. “We want everyone to be on the same page and feel connected regardless of where they are” says Anita.
