DLA Piper takes flexible resourcing capability global with LOD and AdventBalance

DLA Piper and LOD (Lawyers On Demand) today announced that they have further extended their innovative collaboration with the launch of a flexible resourcing capability for DLA Piper in Australia. Today’s move builds on the outstanding success of the venture in the UK, launched in November 2015, and marks the first step of the planned international expansion announced at that time. It also leverages the recent merger between LOD and AdventBalance, Australia’s leading flexible legal service provider, creating one of the world’s largest New Law businesses.

The venture will enable DLA Piper to offer an enhanced service to clients across Australia through the creation of a flexible lawyer pool, which will include DLA Piper alumni, created and managed by LOD and AdventBalance. The move is part of DLA Piper’s drive to deliver consistently outstanding client service, including offering high-quality, flexible resources where appropriate. It also underlines the firm’s commitment to retaining talent through the provision of a wider range of career choices for both staff and alumni.

With offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane, LOD and AdventBalance will support DLA Piper across Australia using its powerful platform of lawyers, knowhow and technology. Today’s announcement marks the first step in the rollout of LOD’s suite of flexible solutions for law firms outside of the UK.

Simon Levine, Global Co-CEO, DLA Piper commented: “We have had a truly fantastic response in the UK from both our clients who are using our flexible lawyers and our alumni who have signed up to be flexible lawyers. Our aim is to offer our clients the same high-quality, innovative service wherever they do business and we therefore entered into the collaboration with LOD with the intention of expanding internationally. It makes absolute sense to launch our flexible lawyering solution in Australia next and we are very excited to bring this exciting new model to the market.”

Jonathan Brenner, Co-Founder LOD, added:  “Our collaboration with DLA Piper has exceeded all our expectations and we are delighted, though not surprised, to be ‘going global’ so soon after the UK launch. DLA Piper’s passionate commitment to innovation shines through everything that it does and, together, we have been a real force for change in the legal industry. Today’s news comes hot on the heels of LOD’s ground-breaking merger with AdventBalance, and clearly demonstrates the enormous potential of the deal. We’ve taken New Law global and, in doing so, have created the perfect storm. Watch this space for more to come.”
